Injustice: Gods Among Us: A Solid game Experience!

I have recently purchased Injustice: Gods Among Us. And I have to admit, this is one heck of a game. For years, people have longed to see media or a video game where the super heroes and villains of the DC universe duke it out in an epic battle of wits and wills. Injustice: Gods Among Us does not disappoint on this account. It is a game with challenging battles and several game modes that will keep you playing for several hours.

The Story:
I just want you all to know, that there are going to be a few spoilers in this section! The story is split between two existences within the DC universe. One existence Superman rules with an iron fist due in part to the Joker’s destruction of Metropolis. Thereby, killing Lois Lane and his unborn child. Unfortunately, The Man of Steel snaps and takes over his world with a few of his fellow comrades. Anyone who stands in his, hero or villain, will either be killed or enslaved. Except for The Dark Knight. Batman manages to evade Superman and finds a way to extract several super heroes from an alternate universe, unbeknownst to them. There, they join forces against the tyrannical Superman and his minions. Meanwhile, the Superman in the other universe desperately tries to find out what happened to the absent superheroes as well as lend a hand.
The story has the player progress through the game with several characters. At the same time, hero or villain you use have his or her unique personality and skills that contribute to the story.

Game play:
Unlike several fighting games, the special moves are not the best aspect of the characters’ abilities. In most cases, the fighting heavily relies on combos and juggles. If you are someone who relies heavily on special moves like I do, then Injustice: Gods Among Us may take a while to get use to. Keep that in mind!
Stages are interactive! Characters can pickup objects from the background and hit his/her opponent, causing considerable damage and destruction. Several stages, such as the bat cave, insurgency, and the watchtower, contain projectile weapons. In addition, many stages have two or three parts. If a character is on the edge of the screen and hit a certain way, he or she will creatively launch through different platforms until landing on a new portion of the stage.

Graphics:
All of the stages and characters looked great, even though I don’t care for a lot of the designs. However, the stages are recognizable as well as visually interesting. The grandness of the stages gives the player the sense that he or she is part of a the DC universe. Moreover, the characters look and move realistically and with fluency.

Modes:
There are six modes within the game. The Story mode consist of a twelve part single player campaign, allowing the player to use several heroes and villains as well as fighting several of them.
The Battle mode, much like an arcade mode in most fighting games, allows a player to select a hero or villain to fight against a line of foes. The battle mode contains several unique challenges such as the “Hero” challenge, putting you against several superheroes, or the “Speed-run” mode, forcing you to beat all your adversaries within three minutes.
The Single Fight mode is much like the battle mode. However, you can hand pick both your character as well as your opponent. In addition, the player can choose the stage he or she wants to fight in. At the end of the fight, the player can obtain experience points.
S.T.A.R. Labs is a mode that makes the player must complete up to 240 missions. Complete all of them and get the ultimate prize.
Training mode is where you can increase your skills. The training mode let players hone skills that he or she lacks.
Multiplayer allows people to play against another person online. All matches are one on one.

Characters:
There are 24 for characters and so far three DLC characters. All are major superheroes or villains from DC universe that we have come to love and admire.
As stated earlier, every characters have several unique skills and moves that are related to their trademark abilities. Two kind of characters exist in this game. One type of character is referred to as a gadget character. Characters such as Batman or Deathstroke are gadget characters. The two use different man made projectiles that assist them during in their fight against different opponents.
The other type of character is the power character. This characteristic relates to those who use more physical strength, such as Wonder Woman or Bane. Their super strength allows them to deliver devastating blows to an opponent.

Nitpicks:
Injustice: Gods Among Us is a solid videogame with great game play and an interesting storyline. Although, I do have few issues with the game. The special moves should have more relevance and force during bouts. You can spend more time trying to figure out which combos to do, as oppose to performing a really cool special move that causes a good amount of damage.
Another thing that turned me off with the game is some of the characters’ design. Some characters such as Batman, Cyborg, and Catwoman look pretty cool. In fact, Batman’s look slightly resemble the Christian Bale Batman. However, characters like Harley Quinn and Hawkgirl looked hideous and plain to me, and I would have preferred their alternate skins as opposed to their original ones, or a different look to all together.
The storyline is creative and interesting but at times confusing. Sometimes you cannot decipher the two universes within the story. Which characters are the real authentic ones? Which Superman takes over the world? The Superman we know? Or the Superman of the alternate world? It’s never clear and I was sort of taken me away from the story. In addition, when someone beats the battle mode with a character, the endings are a little underwhelming.
Finally, I’m a little tired of DLC characters. Why couldn’t they make the DLC characters hidden characters? They’re cool, they’re awesome, and you do what is required to unlock them! To be fair, this is a lot of video games these days. But, in my personal opinion, hidden characters need to come back!

Overall Review:
Despite my nitpicks, I really enjoy playing this game. It has a lot to offer and presents a clever twist towards the idea of what it means to be a hero or villain. Injustice: Gods Among Us gives the answer to the questions that several people have been asking for years. Could we completely trust a person with superpowers? If Superman wanted to take over the world, who or what could stop him? And if so which superheroes would stand by him or against him? Whether satisfied or disappointed, this game provides answers to these kind of questions.

Rating:
I give this game a 4/5.
